Hibiscus Based Betanin
Description
Hibiscus Powder is made from dried, ground sepals of the hibiscus plant, and it is naturally gluten-free. The finely ground powder has a deep burgundy color. In addition to adding fuchsia color to food and beverages, it also has a sour flavor and can be added to spice rubs for pork, chicken, or seafood to enhance flavor and color.
When using or applying hibiscus – regardless of its form – the colors vary depending on the pH. For instance, shades of red may be obtained in an acidic environment, while shades of lilac may be obtained in an alkaline environment.
